5 steps to get back on track with business goals

So, how are your New Year's resolutions coming along? 🤭

Don't worry! I'm not here to scold you, quite the opposite actually.

January tends to be filled with excitement, you’ve gotten some rest over the holidays, you’ve had some quality time with loved ones, and you are motivated to work hard towards the goals you have set for this new year.

But usually, a few months later, most of us feel like we’ve gotten off-track from our resolutions, why? Where did the motivation go?

Sometimes things don’t go according to plan, we either drift away from our goal or we are faced with obstacles we didn’t anticipate, and that’s ok!

Life is unpredictable, and the more we try to have control over it, the more helpless we end up feeling.

So how can you get back on track with your goals?

Practice these 5 steps daily in order to make sure you get back on track with your goals, and stay motivated and committed.

Step 1: Remind yourself of your “Why”  🧐

Want to know what will light a fire of passion within you? Reminding yourself of "why" you want to achieve something.

It's important that your "why" is not vague like "to make more money" or "gain more followers".

Your "why" should be deeper, like to finally have something you can call your own, to help people succeed in their field, to sell the best jewellery to like-minded individuals.

The more emotional and specific your "why" is, the more you will feel inspired to keep yourself committed to your goals.

Step 2: Practice Accountability

You need to build a system for yourself where you make sure you get done what needs to get done in order to advance towards your goals.

Sometimes our own accountability isn’t enough to keep us diligent. That's why it's important to confide in a close person, a group, or a mentor to keep you in check.

Having someone checking in weekly to see if you've worked on your goals leaves no room for excuses. External pressure from someone you respect is just what you may need to keep the motivation consistent on a weekly basis.

Step 3: Set yourself up for Success 🏃🏻‍♀️

What makes a goal achievable is a structured and achievable action plan. Set realistic deadlines for yourself and don’t try to put too much on your plate.

It also helps to break down your goals into smaller manageable tasks. Imagine you want to run a marathon, but you haven't even completed a 10K. Crazy right?

Ease into your ultimate goal in order to avoid overworking yourself or giving up from frustration. If you want to become a jewellery business owner, do some research, take a course, and learn from others before you jump headfirst into it.

Step 4: Stop the Self-Criticism 🤦🏻‍♀️

Do you know what’s motivating? Looking back and practicing gratitude towards any small or large accomplishment you've achieved.

You’ve come this far and I can guarantee there is something you’ve done that you can look back at and be proud of.

You have accomplished things before, and looking back at these moments reminds you that you are capable of doing anything you set your mind to.

If you keep looking back at the past or criticising yourself you are only putting yourself down. Take a moment each day to pat yourself on the back for the work you are doing.

Step 5: Take it one day at a time 🐢

Rome wasn’t built in a day. Take a deep breath and remind yourself that success overnight is unlikely, and the same goes with failure.

Just because you fell off track doesn’t mean your journey ends there. Rather than giving up, or worrying about what you are doing wrong, refocus on your ultimate goal.

Practice the 4 previous steps and remind yourself that you can get back on track towards your goals.

No matter how many times you find yourself straying away, realise that there is always a way to get back on track. Don't focus so much on what could have been, but focus on what you can do now and worry about the rest later.

Are you ready to get back on track?

Lots of love,

Megan xx
